Case Study – Slag conveying system for IWMF & Energy Centre Essex
Additional conveyors for optional redundancy of the system
Slag
Construction of a new energy centre in Essex
The centre includes an Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) that aims to significantly reduce the volume of mixed municipal waste and recover useful resources. The waste is recycled for energy during incineration. From 2026 onwards, this is expected to incinerate around 595,000 tonnes of waste per year, which will provide energy for around 600,000 households. Loibl Förderanlagen GmbH is supplying several troughed belt conveyors to transport the accruing slag.
Slag conveying
The waste slag is transferred through a chute to two LASHBELTCON® units connected in series. These convey the slag onto a reversible conveyor belt, which distributes the material into an adjacent slag bunker. The conveyor system can be optionally supplemented by additional conveyors due to a planned redundancy. The conveyor system is equipped with a device to which the on-site extinguishing system can be attached. At the customer's request, one of the troughed belt conveyors is designed with a weight tension, all other conveyor systems are equipped with spindle tension as standard. In addition, Loibl supplies the complete cabling at the distribution belt.
Slag processing
Grate ash as well as grate slag residues hold significant processing potential and can be used to recover valuable secondary materials. Slag processing plants from Loibl efficiently separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals from slag residues and process them further in a single-sort process. Our solutions are characterised by low energy consumption, innovative wear protection concepts and high plant availability.
