The new RDF cogeneration plant is part of a large-scale regional energy transition project replacing coal with refuse-derived fuels to generate clean as well as competitive energy for the French soda plant at the Dombasle site.

The new RDF plant is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions from the historic plant by 240,000 tons per year, a reduction of 50%. When the new RDF plant is completed in 2024, the Dombasle region will have a state-of-the-art combined heat and power plant capable of converting up to 350,000 tons of RDF into energy per year.

Loibl Förderanlagen GmbH supplied a total of four wet deslaggers for the new RDF power plant, which will be used to cool and convey the burned residues. The cooling of the RDF residues will consume less water overall than the cooling of burned coal residues previously did. This will reduce the soda ash plant's annual water consumption by 7%.
