Eternal trees for the Straubing Zoo
Category: Local, Company, Social | | Created by Lea PfingstenThe new outdoor area of the lion enclosure in Straubing Zoo is about to be reopened. Since its completion, the lions Kiano and Shari have been allowed to explore the new area for a few hours every day, which offers them many new opportunities to play and hide. Part of the modernized African enclosure is an extension for which Loibl manufactured four metal baobab trees on behalf of the zoo.
The baobab, also known as the African baobab, is characterized by a very wide trunk in which it can store up to 1,000 liters of water. Ideally suited for the hot climate of the dry savannahs south of the Sahara. "We considered whether to use the African acacia, which, along with the baobab, is one of the typical trees of the continent, to decorate the façade," reports zoo director Dr. Michel Delling. However, their trunks would have been too narrow for the purpose of the signage.
After all, the metal trees are not just for decorative purposes, but are also used as sponsorship boards. The sponsors' logos can be easily screwed on via pre-drilled holes. "Our sponsors are regional companies, institutions and individuals who have explicitly supported the construction of the lion facility. We would like to say thank you to them with this campaign," says Delling.
Lukas Schiederer from technical project planning took care of the order processing and was present at the installation date of the trees. "This was my first job as a certified business administrator at Loibl. Was really fun." Lukas began his apprenticeship at Loibl in 2017 as a cutting machine operator and graduated with honors in 2020. He will have completed his advanced training as a business administrator in a few weeks. He has already been supporting the aftersales team with his new skills since February 2023.
"It's always nice to see a technical drawing being converted into reality," confirms training manager Tom Wagner. Together with his colleague Jürgen Bauer from work preparation, laser machine operator Danilov Anatoly and two apprentices, he took care of the implementation of the Baobab drawings.
"The trees really turned out exactly as we imagined them," praises Dr. Delling. He found the uncomplicated cooperation, the high level of technical expertise of his contact persons and the fast implementation of the order particularly pleasant.
