The Beauty in the Beast - Innovative Waste-to-Energy projects around the world
The CopenHill (also known as Amager Bakke) in the middle of Denmark's capital was commissioned in 2017 and has reshaped Copenhagen's skyline.
The waste incineration plant was built to replace its 50-year-old municipal predecessor. It incinerates the residual waste of approximately 645,000 people and about 68,000 businesses from Copenhagen and four other surrounding municipalities. In return, the waste-to-energy plant supplies 80,000 households with electricity and 90,000 homes with district heating. But while its tangible heart is the processing of waste to supply the city, much more happens in and upon the building...
Amager Bakke represents an extraordinary project for the Loibl Förderanlagen GmbH. The 450 m long ski slope on the roof of the plant and its location close to the city center are spectacular. Our transport systems inside the plant make an important contribution to the highly efficient and low-emission conveyance of combustion residues. This way, sustainable electricity and district heating can be generated. We are proud to be a partner in this urban project and to contribute to Denmark's environment and future.
